HB 9 TABLED BY SENATE JUDICIARY

  • Feb. 9th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
The Senate Judiciary has tabled HB  9, the Domestic Partnerships bill, by a 6-4 vote.

Supporters of the bill, including Senate Judiciary Chairman Cisco McSorley realized they didn't have the votes. He's been holding up the Judiciary Committee for days, apparently in hopes of being able to squeak this through.

I suppose supporters could "blast" the bill out to the Senate floor. But it's questionable whether there's the votes to pass it. Last year a similar bill was killed by just one vote in the Senate.

Heterosexual sexual couples can relax now. Your marriages will no longer be threatened by gay couples getting equal rights. At least until next session.

Heterosexual couples threatend
I was suprised to see the comment "Heterosexual couples can relax now" I think it was uncalled for I am in a Heterosexual marriage and don't feel "threatened" by gay couples who are in a committed relationship. I feel that we as a state should stand by our gay couples equal rights they pay taxes just like us and sometimes better than some of us. And if there are any "threatened" heterosexual marriages or relationships out there just what are you threatened by,the fact you don't have the courage to face the fact someone might have a better, longer lasting relationship. Or are you listening to someone else making your decision. And don't be God's judge about their lives only God will make the judgement on their lives and on yours.

I commend the republican's and the democrates who voted against HB 9. I understand that the democrates received so much pressure from on top, but stood firm on doing the "right thing" the people! Especially for children!!! You all are heros!!!

Try, try again...
The testimony against HB 9 was all about religion. "Please protect the sanctity of marriage!" sobbed one hysterical woman. Senator Rainaldi, one of the turncoat Democrats, sounded like Republican Orrin Hatch when he was interrogated Anita Hill (I know, many of you missed that farce). Someday I think we will have domestic partnerships, and they will be more popular than marriage, which will be perceived as the choice of bigots.
